Wheal Coates Mine - Photography Week 14 (2016)

Photography week 14 (2016) finished with a walk along the South West Coastal Path from Chapel Porth to St Agnes Head.

At weekends my wife and I enjoy walking sections of the path. These are not photography trips as a rule but I do tend to take some of the gear.... just in case!

For non-photographers, landscape photography can be particularly boring. This is can be especially true when waiting for the light to change. The argument that the light will dip under a cloud in five minutes wears thin after the third declaration.

Watching light becomes a habit which is hard to break. There is a landscapers maxim that says: "if it is happening you have missed it". Composing, getting the exposure settings right, aligning the grads, levelling the horizon all takes time. Setting up and anticipating the light is all part of the game. Arguably, the best landscape photographers are the ones who are confident in their composition and wait for the light to fall.

It is possible to be lucky. Being in the right place at the right time does happen but landscape photography on the move doesn't produce consistent results. Knowing this and then putting it into practice is the challenge and that is why there are photography days and days when the camera simply goes for a walk!

On this occasion my wife's tolerance for a wait held with the following results:

By the time we got back to the car at Chapel Porth the waves were crashing onto the beach with force. With fading light I captured a few record shots:
