Foxcovert Nature Reserve - Photography Week 48 (2016)

Foxcovert Nature Reserve and plantation was purchased in 1996 by Nottinghamshire's wildlife trust it is thought to have been once part of the ancient Sherwood Forest (1). Today it sits in between the main A614 and site of the old Calverton colliery (2) and is accessed by the closed off Gravelly Hollow road.

Being in a hollow the winter sunlight only touches the top of the trees whilst frosty conditions persists at ground level:
